I love my Audi Q5, I really do, but she has a problem and we need to talk about it. It started when she was a young adult, about 50,000 miles. Yes, she drank one quart between oil changes and we thought that wouldn't be a problem at all. We thought we could do that for the rest of her life. But now she has drinks many quarts between oil changes and we need to talk about it.

I have been keeping track of my car's oil consumption since I bought it new. Its a 2013 Audi Q5 - 2.0 liter turbo engine. As a teenager during her warrantee period she was marvelous, weaving around traffic with the zip of a energetic teenager. Then it happen. She had her first taste of it. She started a drinking problem at 50,000 miles. First it was only one quart of oil and we thought we could live with that, but it became more until she was drinking several quarts between oil changes.

The Plunge

It was a quick plunge into the dark from 50,000 miles to 75,000 miles where she kept drinking more and more until we hit the bottom and it is where we are at today. It has been gradually getting worse and today she is sipping or should I say chugging a quart of oil every 250 miles. When will it stop? I don't know however its getting worse and I am afraid she may be near her end. She is not leaking oil she is simply consuming it with each stroke of the piston.

Do I replace her engine? It doesn't make sense. She, at 10 years old, would only fetch about 7 or 8 thousand dollars and a new engine would cost 12 thousand. She is in her final years and I cant stop her from drinking.

Next Post

My next post will be about my Audi Q5 rehab last year at her mechanic for her misfires and her not wanting to get out of her garage.
